Egold CBT

CBT exam software for Nigerian and West African schools

Set school exams, keep them running when internet or power is unreliable, and return results without re-marking objective scripts. Online use is free; offline self-hosting needs a licence.

Choose the question type for the skill you want to assess

Use any supported format in school tests and exams. Objective answers are marked automatically; teachers review written answers.

Multiple choice (MCQ)

Use it for: timed subject tests that check many topics in one sitting, such as a Mathematics or Basic Science class assessment.

How marking works: students select an option; the answer is marked automatically.

True or false

Use it for: quick checks of facts, definitions or whether students understand a concept before moving to the next topic.

How marking works: students choose True or False; the answer is marked automatically.

Fill in the blank

Use it for: short recall questions such as a key term, date, formula value or place name.

How marking works: teachers can enter accepted alternatives, including spelling variants; matching answers are marked automatically.

Descriptive / theory / essay

Use it for: show-your-working Mathematics, explanations in Science, and longer written answers in subjects such as English or Social Studies.

How marking works: a teacher reviews and enters the mark. AI can suggest a score and feedback, but the teacher decides the final grade.

Setting questions

Question banks by subject
Keep each subject's questions together and reuse them across terms and classes.
Word import
Upload a .docx paper. Numbered questions with A–D options become objective questions, with answers taken from "Answer: B" lines or an answer key at the end. Theory papers are kept exactly as typed, tables and pictures included.
Comprehension passages
Attach several questions to one passage or poem. Students read it once, and the questions stay together even when the order is shuffled.
Tables, diagrams and formulas
Add a table, a diagram above or below the question, and sub/superscripts for chemistry and maths (H₂O, x²).
Four question types
Multiple choice, true/false, fill in the blank with accepted alternatives, and descriptive/theory answers. See examples and when to use each above.
AI help
Generate questions on a topic, or turn a photo of a past paper into questions, then review before saving.
Spreadsheet import
Bring in hundreds of questions at once from a CSV file.

Running the exam

Each student gets a different paper
Questions and options can be shuffled per student. Answer keys never leave the server.
Server-controlled timer
Refreshing the page or restarting the computer doesn't reset the clock or the answers.
Live invigilation
See every student's progress, time left and warnings. Send messages, add time, pause the whole hall, submit for a student or end an attempt.
Power-cut recovery
Students who lost power sign in and continue. Attempts that ran out of time while they were away can be reopened with their answers kept.
Integrity warnings
Switching tabs, leaving full screen, copying and pasting are recorded with the time, and can auto-submit after a limit you set.
On-screen calculator
Turn it on for maths and science papers. No phones needed.
Review later
Students flag questions to come back to, and are reminded before they submit.

Results and analysis

Instant marking
Objective questions are marked the moment a student submits. Theory answers go to the teacher's marking screen.
WAEC-style grades
Positions, percentages and grades from A1 to F9 for every exam.
Question analysis
See how many students got each question right, whether it separated strong from weak students, and which wrong option most picked. A likely wrong answer key is flagged.
Re-mark in one click
Fixed a wrong answer key? Every script is re-marked and students whose scores change are told.
Excel and print
Export results to Excel (CSV) or print a clean results sheet or PDF.
Leaderboards and progress
Class leaderboards, each student's results by subject over time, and report cards.
